Perfecting Procrastination

The thump th-thump of the heartbeat starts to race, the tiny blood vessels in the eyes enlarge due to the lack of sleep, the hair on the head is in such disarray, and the brain has switched to fight or flight mode. If you recognize any of these symptoms you must have experienced the practice of procrastination in some time or another. When it comes to perfection, I fall short in all categories....except maybe one - procrastination. Is it a skill, a talent, a disease, an art, a bad habit, an addiction, something past down from generation to generation or just a bad sense of timing. Whatever it may be I seem to do it well. Sometimes I view procrastination as a thrill, like hurdling oneself out of a plane, thousands of feet from the earth only to be saved at the last minute by a simple pull of a cord . The risk is there and so is the thrill and so it is with procrastination. When doing the math it seems so plainly simple to not wait until the last minute to finish a task, but no matter how hard I try to begin there is always tomorrow. Is tomorrow the enemy? It is so enticing and manipulating that one cannot resist. Each day that passes is like a plumit of hundreds of feet towards the ground. Whether its a household chore, school assignment, personal goal or work related task, I am always convinced that later would be a better time. Do they have interventions for procrastinator addicts? I will have to research that - but not tonight, save it for another day.
